Dinosaur Museum!

This morning we went to the Museum of Natural History...or the "Dinosaur Museum", as Aurora likes to call it! This was the first time we have gone when Alex could really get into everything and understand what we were seeing. He loved the dinosaur skeletons and was roaring at them! Aurora got to hold a snake in the biology area - that was the highlight of her day! Alex was too funny in the volcano exhibit - they have it setup like a real volcano and when you walk through it is dark with steam coming out. The floor is clear with simulated red lights and smoke. Alex would NOT walk across the floor! It totally freaked him out and I had to carry him through it. We had a lot of fun!

They both love the dinosaurs outside the museum.

Check him out!

Looks like they're having a conversation or something

It's Nice to Have Help....

Jets

Alex's primary obsession right now is jets - all sizes, shapes, and colors! He loves them and will even watch science shows that have jets in them. He gets so excited when they fly over the house (we live near an air force base). Right now he pronounces his j's like y's, so he calls them "yets"! Here are some pictures of his collection:

One With the Animals

It was a beautiful day today, so we decided to head to the zoo! It's a huge family favorite, and we had a blast!

Zebras

I thought I would do a couple of posts this week about the kids' favorite things. Aurora's favorite thing in the whole world right now is zebras. They have always been her favorite animal. I have to admit, they are pretty cool! I scored big last week and found a zebra outfit on clearance at Gymboree - she was so excited! They even had matching socks and barrettes! So here she is with her new outfit and her zebra collection:

Legs and Cheeks

Did that title get your attention?!? Actually, this post is an update on Alex's leg, and a note about an injury Aurora incurred today!

First, we had a followup with Alex's orthopedic surgeon today. He's doing great! His limp is almost gone and he is pretty much back to normal. Here is a comparison of his leg the day of the accident and today. We don't need to go back for 6 months!

Then,
Aurora injured herself at school today. Apparently she was running and fell into the corner of a playhouse! Ouch! She has a mark from her cheek all the way up past her eye. I bet it will be bruised by tomorrow. I wondered what the doctors thought today while I was in there with my son recovering from a broken leg and my daughter's face all beaten up - yikes! Here is a picture of Aurora's face.

Polly Pockets!

One of the kids' cousins, Sydney, sent her entire collection of Polly Pockets to Aurora around Christmas time. Three HUGE boxes, it was just crazy! I put them away at the time to save them for after the holiday rush when the kids could really enjoy them. This weekend we had nothing planned so it seemed like the perfect time.

Luckily, Alex does not put things in his mouth so it was okay for him to play as well, and there just happened to be an airplane in the set to satisfy his current jet obsession! Aurora's favorite was the little Disney princess sets. Here are some pictures of the kids having fun with all of the stuff - look at that collection - thanks Sydney!!

For Tuesday

Today we are joining a community of blogkind, gathered by Moms Without Blogs and Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit, to show our support and love in celebration of Tuesday Whitt's life.

We took the kids for a "wagie ride," one of Tuesday's favorite things to do - whether it's hopping on a bike, walking around the block, taking a ride in a wagon, etc. Our kids decided to ride their bikes (although Alex got tired after a bit and opted to ride in his car).

Here are the pictures from our event:

Trouble!

Alex is recovering well enough to start causing some trouble! He's still walking with a pretty good limp...Josh calls it his "gangster walk"! He gets pretty tired by the end of the day still and often uses his walker in the evenings. But otherwise, he is pretty much back to normal. The other day I was putting laundry away in the bedroom and came back to find that he had gotten the stool out of the bathroom and climbed onto it to peruse the DVD's! And lately he's been hanging out on the back of the couch! I am terrified, of course, that he is going to hurt himself again...but what can you do with a rambunctious little boy?!?!

American Idol

Aurora is turning into quite the little fan of American Idol. Everyday she asks me if it is coming on. I Tivo the episodes and we usually watch 30 mins each night before bed. She loves to laugh at the people auditioning with their crazy outfits and terrible voices. I'm glad that I finally have someone to watch it with! The other day she told me, "Mom, I'm starting to think that I really like grown-up shows now."
