Aurora's First Story

The other day I was helping Alex with his homework (identifying shapes and colors), and I needed to distract Aurora, so I asked her to write me a little story.  Here is what she wrote:

Translation: "A green dragon with the blue stripes was hungry.  He found the blue berries.  The end."

Not bad for a 5 year old I say!

Easter Preparations

Today we went to my parents' house, Grandma and Grandpa S. to have some Easter fun with them since we were planning on spending Easter Day with the other Grandparents. Before we went over we made some cupcakes with chicks and bunnies on them to have for dessert.

At their house, we played outside:

And we colored eggs! They picked out a zoo animal kit and a Star Wars kit. The Star Wars kit came with black dye, which I thought was weird! They dropped the eggs in the dye and then put stickers on them and put them in the little stands. They had a lot of fun!

Here is some of their "zoo."

And Grandma and Grandpa gave them chocolate bunnies for Easter!
Chillin' with Grandma afterwards!

Spring Snow Storm

Saturday morning we woke up and were surprised to see several inches of snow!! It was the most snow we had seen all year and it was on the weekend so we were super excited to go play in it. Last year, Alex was in a full body cast during most of the winter, so this was his first time really getting out in it. We got bundled up and headed to a nearby park that has a soccer field shaped like a bowl - perfect for sledding! Fortunately we had our discs from White Sands so we were all set!

When we got there, Alex was a little reluctant to go down the hill at first, but once he got in he loved it! The discs were FAST! There were several other people there with actual sleds and asked to borrow a disc because they were so much faster! It was fun!

We also tried to build a snowman, but the snow was so powdery we could only make a tiny one. It was still cute!

The best part about New Mexico is the weather. We had all that fun in the morning and then by the afternoon, the snow was all gone and it was back to sunny and warm grilling weather!

Karate Update

Aurora is doing fantastic in karate! She listens and participates in class, and her favorite is sparring. She has no fear and gets right in there against her opponent. We've had some issues getting her to practice her katas at home because all she wants to do is sparr! We've been trying to teach her that she needs to get the basics down first.

Last week Daddy suited up and sparred with her. I think they both enjoyed it. These were all taken with my phone so sorry for the low quality! In the video, she's in the black, sparring with a 7 year old who's been doing it for 2 years.

Things They Say...

Alex has a new cup that Daddy brought him from a recent business trip. It says "Alexander" on it. Last night he was drinking milk from it and he pointed to my glass and asked for ice, like me:

Alex: I want ice.
Me: You don't put ice in milk!
Alex: Yes you can.
Me: You're not supposed to - by the way, what does your cup say?
Alex: It says, Alex needs ice!

______________

The other night, Aurora was having one of those fun dip candies, with the candy stick that you lick and dip in the colored sugar. I looked over and saw her eating the sugar with her fingers:

Me: Why are you eating the sugar with your fingers? Where is the stick?
Aurora: I ate it.
Me: Why did you do that? You aren't supposed to eat it until the sugar is gone.
Aurora: I tried not to eat it, but it accidentally got in my mouth, and then I had to!
