Halloween 2010

We had a great Halloween this year!  Friday night after school, we went with Grandma S to a little pumpkin patch near our house to pick out pumpkins to carve on Halloween.  Aurora and Alex took turns pulling the wagon around and looked for just the right pumpkins to decorate.

On Saturday, we had two Halloween parties...a kids' one in the day for Aurora's little boyfriend KJ's birthday, and then we dropped the kids off at Grandma and Grandpa K's and went to an adult one!  At the kids' one they had lots of yummy treats and a cool Frankenstein cake and they played Halloween games!

This year Alex decided to dress up as.....Buzz Lightyear!  Yeah, no surprise...Buzz Lightyear for the second year in a row.

Aurora, being slightly obsessed with the new Alice in Wonderland movie, found a Mad Hatter costume that she liked.  Since it was the first somewhat girly costume she has ever picked out, I jumped at the chance to buy it!  I think she looked so cool!!!!

Sunday afternoon we went to Grandma S' and decorated pumpkins!  After scooping out the 'pumpkin guts,' I carved one with a bat and the kids used Mr. Potato-head-like pieces on theirs.

I think the hardest part of Halloween is waiting for it to get dark!  Finally, the time arrived and we headed out to Trick or Treat.  Daddy and I wore the costumes we had worn to the adult party - his jester costume from last year and I went as a Renaissance queen.

The kids made it down several streets.  Aurora was reluctant to go into the spooky houses, but Alex was letting nothing stop him from getting his candy!  He marched right up there!  At one house, he was rewarded by a very scarily dressed guy who loaded him up!  Unfortunately, at one of the other houses, they weren't so considerate of young children and chased Aurora down the driveway, leaving her in tears.  But she quickly got over it and still had a good night.

And look at all the loot they ended up with!

Pumpkin Patch 2009

On Sunday we went to McCall's Pumpkin Patch! We go every year and every time we go they have new things to do! When we got there this time, the first thing the kids did was ride the cow train. They loved riding all around the farm and ringing the cow bells.

Then we checked out all of the animals. They have farm animals that you can look at and goats you can feed. There is even a huge "goat mountain" made out of wooden ladders and balconies for the goats to walk up and get a good view. They also have a "Bunny Town" with little bunnies and their houses.

After the animals, the kids and Daddy bounced on the "Pumpkin Pillow" - a huge orange air filled pillow you can bounce on! They also had several bounce houses, separated by age groups so the big kids couldn't stomp on the little kids.

We also climbed a hay pyramid, and watched them shoot pumpkins out of the pumpkin cannon! The cannon was a huge and used an air compressor to shoot them about half a mile! Daddy said he wanted one for Christmas!

Then we went through the corn maize, but the kids got pretty tired of that after a bit so we ended up taking a "short cut" to get back out. We actually did not go out to the actual pumpkin patch because it is too difficult for Alex to walk over all of the vines and he is too big for me to carry. Next year!

While Daddy and Aurora ordered food, Alex did his favorite part - playing in the corn pit! They have buckets, shovels, and dump trucks and the kids have a blast playing with the corn! That night I found several kernels in his diaper!

There was actually much more to do there but the kids were pretty worn out already. There's always next year! It was a great day!

Pumpkin Carving

We went and got pumpkins last week to do our annual carving with Grandma. The kids had a blast at the tiny pumpkin patch. We got a "Mr. Potato Head" type kit for Aurora to do with her pumpkin and Alex was happy with stickers. This was the first year we got Aurora to stick her hand in the pumpkin and pull out pulp!

Pumpkin Patch!

We took the kids to McCall's Pumpkin Patch today...wow what a day! The place has a corn maze, corn box (equivalent of a sand box but with corn kernels), hay pyramid, cow train, giant pumpkin bounce house, pedal kart racing course, pumpkin catapult, bunnyville, petting zoo, a giant jumping pillow, and you get to take a hay ride out to the HUGE pumpkin patch to pick your pumpkins! We do this every year and this time Alex was really into it - the kids had a blast! The weather was perfect and they both picked out cute little pumpkins at the patch. It was such a busy day, we got home at 2:00 and EVERYONE took a nap! Here's a slideshow of our day:
