Car Show

Unfortunately, my kids are just like their Daddy and have an ingrained love for cars...especially shiny, sporty, fast ones! I have told Josh that when they turn 16, driving and vehicles will be ALL his responsibility!

So this week when we were offered free tickets to the New Mexico International Car Show, it was a no-brainer to go and take the kids. We went out there last night and you should have heard the kids as we walked in and saw all the big, brand new, shiny vehicles.

The biggest issue was keeping them from running their hands over all of them! But the representatives were very cool about and even let people get in and check them out. I was a little disappointed because I thought there might be some up-and-coming stuff or some concept cars, but there wasn't. It was just all of the manufacturers with their current lineups. But the kids didn't mind.

The biggest highlight of the night for them, was the Chevy Camaro...aka "Bumblebee"!! And they both got posters of it to hang on their doors, which made their night!

I didn't take my camera with me, so these are all from my iPhone:

Tooth Fairy Adventures

Aurora lost her second tooth last week! A kid at school "accidentally" kneed her in the chin and the loose tooth came right out. She came home from school with the tooth in a little plastic treasure box and an envelope to put a note in. She wrote a little note to the Tooth Fairy and set it out to be taken.

It was the male Tooth Fairy's duty to get it and leave the money in the middle of the night because he can see in the dark much better, but he forgot, so the female Tooth Fairy had to do it when she got up, before the kids were woken up.

Unfortunately she is not very sly because after Aurora showed me the glittery dollar bill, the following conversation ensued:

Aurora: Mom I saw you get my tooth last night.
Me: No I didn't!
Aurora: Then why were you in my room?
Me: I was checking to make sure the fairy came!

I'm not sure if she quite believed me. Oh well! In this house, if you don't believe, then you don't get any money!

Later that day, I finally read her note to the Tooth Fairy:

(I like your money, The Tooth Fairy)

She's her father's daughter, for sure!!

Birthday Preparations

My daughter is a planner, just like me.  That and a few other OCD tendencies are the only things she got from me!  Otherwise she is 99% her Daddy.  So it's not surprising that she has been planning her May birthday celebration for the past several months already.

She has decided she wants to have her party at Texas Roadhouse.  When it is your birthday there you get to sit on a saddle and wear a big hat and you are the center of attention while everyone cheers for you.  She can't wait!  I am all for it because we will spend the same amount as we usually would for decorations and food (we are only inviting family and close friends) except I don't have to clean the house, prepare the food, or clean up after!

Even though we are not doing decorations, I did let her pick a theme for the invitations and birthday cake.  No big surprise there either - she picked Phineas and Ferb, her favorite TV show. This weekend we designed the invitations to send out and printed them on greeting card printer paper:

And since we are only inviting family and friends who will ask us what she wants for her birthday anyway, we included her birthday list, handwritten by her (and translated by me):

(Cliff's is a local amusement park).

I think she's all set!  The tough part about being a planner is the wait from the time you worked all your plans out until the date of the event!

Braggin' on Aurora

I'm so proud of Aurora!  She is doing so well in school.  We recently got her 3rd quarter report card and she is exceeding in everything!  Her teacher said she is doing a great job and is a very quick learner.  She learns her sight word lists overnight.  Her teacher's comments (the handwritten comment was by the principal):

Aurora has also advanced to first grade level reading!  She brought this book home last night from a first grade class and read it to me with no problem!

That's my girl!
