We had a pretty low key Independence Day this year. On top of it being a Monday night and us having to go to work and school the next day, our state has been on fire and we are in an extreme drought so we didn't think fireworks were such a great idea.
On Sunday, we had a little BBQ at home with my mom. She and my dad are going through a divorce so we wanted to make it festive and fun for her! We set out yummy fruit and drinks and grilled steak and shrimp.
After dinner we had a great time making red, white, and blue strawberries! We used white chocolate chips and blue sugar. They were pretty and tasted great too!
On Monday we went to the other grandparents' house. We made pina coladas, watched the movie "Independence Day", and various other activities.
Since we weren't doing fireworks, we brought some other noisemakers with us. Josh gave Aurora and Alex their first lesson in gun use and safety with his BB gun. Aurora didn't like the noise, but Alex LOVED it. In fact, he loved it SO much it worried me, but made me glad that Josh was teaching him safety and lecturing him on never picking one up without an adult with him.
I also brought party poppers, which the kids had a blast doing. They made quite a mess!
Overall we had a good time and we still made it to bed at a decent hour!
